Child Passenger Safety

The Clinton County Health Department Child Passenger Safety Program provides free child seat safety inspections. Child Safety seat checks are provided by a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician.

The Health Department has child safety seats available at no charge for persons who cannot afford to purchase a seat.  To receive a seat, you must complete the child safety check with the CPS technician.  Please call or email the Health Department to schedule an appointment.
If you would like to schedule an appointment, please contact the health department.

When comming for an inspection, please bring the following with you:

  • All of the safety seats that will be used in the vehicle
  • The children that will ride in the seats
  • The owners manual for the vehicle
  • The owners manual for each child safety seat

An inspection will take approximately 30 minutes to complete, with more time being required for multiple seats.

The Inspection will check:

  • The history of each seat used
  • Each seat will be checked for recalls
  • Proper installation will be taught to the parent/caregiver, who will then demonstrate proper installation
  • Each seat will be properly fit for the child who will ride in the seat
